Male Reproductive System: Breeding Capacity

Breeding Capacity Testing.
Group testing of bulls for libido and serving capacity.
Larsen RE (1982)

Teasing Stanchion.
Simple portable stanchion for restraint of a teaser mount. Basically what the breeding bull needs is an immovable mount. The mount does not have to be in heat and can be another bull, a steer, or a freemartin heifer.
Drost M (1980)

Homemade Teasing Stanchions.
Simple, sturdy holding stanchions can be constructed with fence posts and 2x4s.

Homemade Teasing Stanchion.
Homemade teasing stanchion to restrain the teaser mount. Used in testing the serving capacity of breeding bulls.

Libido Testing.
During a trial mount of a test animal, the libido of the bull can be assessed, as well as spontaneous extension of the penis.
Larsen RE (2001)

Using Headgate.
A teaser mount may be restrained backwards in the headgate of a squeeze chute.

Using Headgate.
A teaser mount, like this heifer in estrus, may be restrained backwards in the headgate of a squeeze chute to observe the serving capacity of the bull.
Larsen RE (2001)

Rainbow Deviation.
This bull displays a rainbow deviation during a serving capacity tests which prevented him from intromission.

Flehmen Response.
The bull checks the pheromones of cows in heat by sniffing vaginal mucus or urine to determine whether the cow is in estrus. He aspirates the pheromones into his vomeronasal organ.
Larsen RE (2001)

Spastic Syndrome.
Guernsey bull with spastic syndrome, also known as Stretches. Severe acute attacks may interfere with copulation due to prolonged spasm of the muscles of the hindlimbs and back.
Roberts SJ (1973)

Stretches.
Spastic syndrome exemplified by an older cow. Opisthotonos is common during an attack in which the hind legs and the back muscles go into spasm.
