Ultrasonography: Abnormal Conditions

Artifacts.
The bright white horizontal lines in the uterus are specular reflections. These artifacts occur when two very different densities are parallel to one another and the ultrasound beam hits them perpendicularly. These artifacts are common in the estrual uterus and should not be confused with pathology.
Colloton J (2006)

Atypical Corpus Luteum.
Strange appearance of a corpus luteum, possibly due to the presence of blood.
Bartolome J (2006)

Granulosa Cell Tumor.
Cystic granulosa cell tumor. In cattle, GCTs are usually benign and unilateral. Affected cows may manifest nymphomania.
Stout TAE (2008)

Endometritis.
Note the flocculation in the lumen of the uterus in the left panel. There is a normal follicle in the right panel. This cow was in heat, but clearly would not be fertile.
Colloton J (2006)

Abnormal Uterine Fluid.
Cross sections of each uterine horn, both with purulent material. Purulent material can appear as any shade of light gray to nearly white, depending on its density. Abnormal uterine fluid is easily differentiated from the normal fluid of pregnancy.
Colloton J (2006)

Metritis.
This is a cross section of one of the uterine horns. There is pus in the lumen and the uterine wall is thickened.
Colloton J (2006)

Intrauterine Foreign Body.
Intrauterine foreign body, the broken off tip of a Cytobrush. It was removed by colpotomy.
