Amputation of the Head.
The fetus was dead, so the head is amputated, through the atlanto-occipital joint, to make room for an examination of the birth canal.

Partial Fetotomy.
After the head has been removed, the remainder of the fetus is examined to determine whether the legs can be retrieved to permit extraction of the fetus.
